12 Kms from Kottayam, Kerala, and Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is situated on the banks of the Vembanad Lake. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is known for its varied avian population. Local varieties such as waterfowls, cuckoos and owls, as well as the migratory Siberian Cranes can be viewed here.

Earlier this complex was a small hotel run by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC).

Chinnar is located in the rain shadow area of the Western Ghats. Unlike other sanctuaries Chinnar has only Fourty eight rainy days in a year. Wide variety of birds and animals can be spotted here.

Silent valley national park is the only park; one can find such a representative collection of rare species. Over a hundred species of butterflies and four hundred species of moths and animals and is accessible only by foot (24km approx) but is an unforgettable adventure of a life time.
